Sustaining Farmers

May 29, 2009

Coffee brand Nescafe is involved in sourcing coffee from hundreds of thousands of Filipino coffee farmers and other people involved in the planting, harvesting, processing and trading of coffee. Its Nestle experimental and Demonstration Farm (NEDF) in Davao provides about 80 percent of all Robusta coffee planting materials used in the Philippines. Its Nescafe First Pick uses beans sourced nationwide. Nescafe’s partnership with Filipino farmers started 40 years ago. In 1986, it established the buying stations across the country where farmers directly sell their coffee beans. In 1994, it founded the NEDF in Tagum, Davao, where farmers are trained in the proper way of growing coffee.
